Wenn Politiker*innen «Sans-Papiers» diskutieren, werfen sie mit allerlei Zahlen um sich. Das Staatssekretariat für Migration gab vor gut einem Jahr eine Studie in Auftrag, um herauszufinden, wie viele «Sans-Papiers» es überhaupt in der Schweiz gibt und was deren Profil ist. Dies ist offensichtlich kein einfaches Unterfangen, handelt es doch um Personen, die sich für längere Zeit ohne Aufenthaltsbewilligung in der Schweiz aufhalten.

In Switzerland, there is currently a discussion on taxing immigrants (well make them pay a fee, not really a tax: “Zuwandererabgabe”) as a means to reduce/regulate immigration. The intuition is straightforward: immigrants cause costs to the country of destination (infrastructure, environment), and we can recover at least some of the expenses from them.
