Die als «Flüchtlingskrise» kaschierte europäische Krise der Regierungsführung hat es vor Augen geführt: Angesichts des Auftauchens von Hunderttausenden von Flüchtlingen aus dem Süden und Nahen Osten, angesichts des Wiedererstarkens der Nationalismen und einer großen Skepsis gegenüber der Bewältigung der Finanz- und Schuldenkrise wird die mangelnde Fähigkeit vieler europäischer Führungsspitzen augenscheinlich, diesen Phänomenen mit adäquaten Antworten zu begegnen.

Given that he has no prior political experience, his election was for a long time considered unthinkable. And since he built his election campaign on xenophobic, racist and sexist language, many dreaded such an outcome.
