Evolving legal precarity? The case of persons displaced from Ukraine
2025
The article analyses the legal frameworks adopted by the EU Member States and Switzerland in response to the mass influx of displaced persons from Ukraine, i.e., temporary protection and protection status S. It compares and discusses different rights, such as access to the labour market, social welfare, mobility and integration measures, and highlights how European states have changed their legal frameworks over time to shape and form these new legal statuses. The article highlights how those legal changes turned into legal precarity for beneficiaries, instead of solidarity-based actions and discharges of the asylum system.
