Who is in the organizing committee of the conference?

The members of the organizing committee are Robin Stünzi (Education Officer of the nccr – on the move), Annique Lombard (Communication Officer of the nccr – on the move), Lea Portmann (University of Lucerne), Roxane Gerber (University of Geneva), Esma Baycan Herzog (University of Geneva), Paula Hoffmeyer (University of Geneva), Angie Gago (University of Lausanne), Frowin Rausis (University of Lucerne), Alessandra Stampi-Bombelli (ETH Zurich) and Petra Sidler (School of Education- University of Applied Sciences and Arts Northwestern Switzerland).

Where and when does the conference take place?

The Conference takes place online, following this link, on 1 and 2 July 2021.

What are the criteria for the selection of the contributions?

We used six criteria for the selection, namely: (1) relevance to the research on migration and mobility; (2) clarity of exposition; (3) soundness of the research design; (4) fit with the overall topic of the conference; (5) thematic fit with other paper proposals; (6) variety of the disciplines and the methods represented at the conference.

How many contributions did you accept?

We received 140 applications and accepted 72 proposals.

How many sessions are there at the conference?

The conference includes eight working groups and four plenary events.

How are the working groups structured?

There will be 4-5 sessions of 1h30 for each working group. Each session will include two 45 minutes papers presentations, divided as follows: presentation (15 minutes), discussants’ feedback (5-10 minutes), Q&A with all participants (20-25 minutes).

When will the plenary events take place and how are they structured?

Four plenary events will take place during the conference. On Thursday 1 July at 4 pm CET, there will be an academic conversation on the future of (im)mobility featuring Tim Cresswell (University of Edinburgh) and Nikola Sander (Research Director for Migration & Mobility at Germany’s Federal Institute for Population Research). This event will take place in the plenary room on zoom and will be recorded. This is the Zoom link: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/87600813047.

On Thursday evening at 6 pm, a best paper award ceremony followed by an informal gathering will take place on gathertown through this link. On the same link, there will be a junior meets senior academic session on Friday at 11 am, involving senior researchers from our nccr network and our International Advisory Board. To close the event, we will have one public lecture by Asuncion Fresnoza-Flot (Université libre de Bruxelles) on Friday 2 July at 3.30 pm on future prospects for gender issues in transnational migration studies. What is the Best Paper Award?

This is a 500 CHF prize for the best paper awarded by a committee of experts composed of the Scientific Officer of the nccr – on the move, the Education officer of the nccr – on the move, and two professors of the network. Only non-NCCR members are eligible for the prize. Papers have to be sent to the responsible of the working group by 21 June to be eligible.
The criteria for the decision are the following:

(1) does the paper engage with an original research question? (2) does the paper convincingly show the relevance of the research question? (3) does the paper clearly outline the key results of the research? (4) does the paper rely on well-grounded research design? (5) does the paper use original data?

The winner of the Best Paper Award is invited to publish his/her paper on our Working Papers Series. The prize money will paid directly on a bank account provided by the winner.
