Interdisciplinarity

Interdisciplinarity has been one of the core missions of the nccr – on the move during its first four years (2014–2018), and has been achieved on several levels, from fostering scientific dialogue between researchers to collective interdisciplinary outputs.

Alongside the scientific exchange platforms organized by the Network Office, the projects have initiated various research activities with each other, such as thematic workshops and other joint academic events. On several occasions, these joint events have led to collective publications such as journal special issues or co-authored publications. Such collective endeavors exposed the fellows to a culture of interdisciplinarity  and led to different joint projects at the level of the fellows, such as co-authored articles, further workshops, blog series or small research projects.

This interdisciplinary culture transpires most of the nccr – on the move products and activities, such as the E-Magazine or the Blog, but also events, such as the Summer School and the Expert Exchange Roundtables. In sum, all of these platforms have gathered researchers from different disciplines to exchange on a shared topic of interest, both with academic peers and non-academic stakeholders.
