A strong sense of belonging to the host society
Self-reported sense of belonging to the Swiss population (Source: Migration-Mobility Survey 2018)
When asked about their sense of belonging or not to Swiss society, three-quarters of people answered that this is totally (25%) or rather (52%) the case. Only a quarter report that this is rather not the case (17%) or not at all (7%). Thus, the majority of the survey respondents consider themselves members of the host society, and therefore find their place in society. African and non-EU/EFTA European nationals, mainly from the Western Balkans, are among the nationalities most frequently reporting full membership in Swiss society. By contrast, American and Asian nationals most clearly reject the idea of belonging to the host society . Women report less frequently than men that they feel part of the host population, but the gender differences are relatively small.
