Migration generally improves migrants’ professional situation
Evolution of the professional situation before and after moving to Switzerland (Source: Migration-Mobility Survey 2018)
Four out of five respondents in employment report that migration has led to an improvement of their professional situation. However, 12% consider that their situation has remained the same following immigration, and 9% report a deterioration of their labor market situation. Women (11%) and people who arrived in Switzerland solely for family reasons (15%) most frequently report a deterioration. The probability of a deterioration also exceeds 12% for non-European nationals, with the exception of North Americans. This result shows that family migration is accompanied by increased difficulties in finding a professional position, which meets the expectations.
